What is Supporting babies and children with special needs ?

Every week for 12 weeks, specialists from Europe, the UK and the USA will share their experience and knowledge of the various applications of the Feldenkrais Method and its transformative learning strategies. Don't miss it !

In the first part of the event, Sophie will share key principles for working with children and babies with special needs, focusing on the role of the practitioner as a teacher rather than a therapist. She will explain how her specialist skills create the optimal conditions for a child to learn—primarily by learning new movement abilities and improving self-perception. Since movement and perception are fundamental to all human activities, any improvement in these areas can also support a child’s behavioral and cognitive development.

Sophie teaches by guiding a child’s attention through touch, movement, and verbal cues to help create new neural pathways, which form the biological basis for learning. A short documentary will offer a closer look at her work with a child, providing valuable insight into these methods and what this approach entails for families.

In the second part, we will watch three short documentaries: the first features Orly Gat and her program for babies; the second highlights Nathalie Dietens, who explains how her training has benefited both her and her child; and the final segment showcases Jérôme Pisani, a Paris-based practitioner with over a decade of experience working with children with special needs.

The event will conclude with a Q&A session with Sophie Dingemans.

Who is teaching ?

Nathalie Deetens

Nathalie Deetens

Nathalie Deetens is the mother of three wonderful daughters. Her youngest daughter has a muscle disease called spinal muscular atrophy, which results from a missing gene that prevents her nerves from communicating with her muscles. Wanting to take action for her daughter, Nathalie not only discovered hopeful and highly effective therapies but also became deeply passionate about them. She studied the Feldenkrais method in Brussels and is a certified practitioner of Michelle Turner – Movement Lesson®. Today, in addition to helping her daughter, she helps many other children, adults, and athletes improve their conditions.
Orly Gat

Orly Gat

Her professional journey began with studies in occupational therapy. After completing her second degree, she discovered her true passion: working with infants and their parents. She chose to undergo training in the Child’Space Method, after which she became a Feldenkrais practitioner. Today she is the Educational Director of trainings of the Child’Space Method around the world, including Italy and Japan, and she is part of the teaching team in the Feldenkrais Method in Israel. While integrating these worlds – practicing occupational therapy for infants and toddlers, utilizing both the Child’Space and Feldenkrais Methods – her goal is to provide her...

I have extensive experience working internationally with children and babies, especially those with special needs. I work with children and babies with a wide range of challenges, and also with typically developing children. I have worked by invitation in ten countries in 18 cities, returning often to the same places and developing close working relationships with many families. I have witnessed time and again the transformative power of this work for children and their families. My experiences have been deeply rewarding and at times deeply challenging, facilitating my own professional transformations and inspiring me to support more practitioners to work...

Jerome Pisani
