Mattis Appelqvist

Mattis is a composer, musician, and filmmaker.

With a degree in cognitive neuroscience of music from Brown University, he explores the links between music, emotion, and time perception—particularly in film. He is currently completing a double master’s in film composition through the international InMICS program, between Bologna and Ghent.

At Forest Lighthouse and Lighthouse Labs, Mattis brings his artistic and narrative skills to educational and audiovisual projects. He created the animation What is Feldenkrais? and a series of short documentaries featuring practitioners.

He co-directed and composed the score for the documentary The Time of the Fireflies (2022), which received critical acclaim and won the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival. His music has been performed by ensembles such as The Edinburgh Quartet, and he continues to perform as a bassist with the band ROZA.

Mattis weaves poetic bridges between art, science, and education.
