Chen-Wei Lee (Wei-Wei)

Chen-Wei Lee, a Taiwanese artist based in Belgium, is a renowned freelance dancer, choreographer, and Gaga instructor. She is also the recipient of the prestigious 24th TECO Award in dance.

Her dance career flourished with the Batsheva Dance Company from 2009 to 2014, where she collaborated closely with notable figures like Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal, and Yasmeen Godder. Chen-Wei expanded her repertoire as a guest dancer with several eminent dance companies, including the Gothenburg Opera Dance Company (2015-16), Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch (2017), and VOETVOLK/Lisbeth Gruwez (2018-present).

Chen-Wei has worked across Europe with distinguished artists such as Jerome Bel, Lisbeth Gruwez, Marina Mascarell, Adolphe Binder, and Marcos Morau. Her American Dance Festival debut, featuring a piece by Mark Dandy, was highlighted as a “sexpot soloist” by The New York Times. In the duet “Zelenstova” by Marcos Morau, her performance and physical prowess were lauded as “stunning and amazing” by Göteborgs-Posten. Furthermore, her role in “The Sea Within” by Lisbeth Gruwez was acclaimed by Danser Canal Historique Review for demonstrating an astonishing ability to embody the element of water.

As a choreographer, Chen-Wei has created several impactful dance performances. Her solo work “Black Box” was heralded by the Taipei Times as the most exciting and creative work of the year. “Elephant,” a duet, was recognized as the year’s outstanding performance by The Jerusalem Post. Her collaborative piece “Together Alone” with Vakulya Zoltán, commissioned by the National Performing Arts Center Taiwan, was a finalist for the Taishin Arts Award and Total Theater Awards 2017. Her 2019 solo creation “kNOwn FACE,” premiered at the Taiwan International Festival of Arts, received critical acclaim.

In her role as a Gaga teacher, Chen-Wei conducts classes and workshops internationally for both professional and amateur dancers, sharing her profound knowledge and passion for dance.
